Cats, Christmas Trees and Gift Time!

At this time of year I get calls asking about the combination of kittens/cats and Christmas trees.  Please read the following article: http://vetmedicine.about.com/od/toxicology/f/christmastrees.htm
We want everyone to have a very happy holiday season, even your cat!  So you could build a tree like this!

Or if you are really energetic, you could try this:

But my all time favorite is this tree made out of books:

No, I don’t expect you to go to these extremes!  My best advice is to not let the cat in the same room as the tree unsupervised.

And now on to the gifts:

This is what I wrote last year:

“I love giving gifts at Christmas time and I truly wish I could give one to each and every one of my blog followers but I don’t think Jim (the economist in the family) would appreciate that idea. “So what should I do” I pondered. I came up with an idea that I hope you will enjoy. Anyone who posts a comment on my blog posts for this month, will have his or her name put in a container. On Christmas Day I will have one of my grandchildren draw out three names. There will be three gifts. The first name drawn will get first pick of the gifts, second name second pick and third name gets the remaining gift—kind of like those on the waiting list choosing their kittens! You don’t have to be one of our pet parents, you just have to be a follower of my blog. Go to the bottom of the blog posts for the next three weeks and fill in the box that says “Leave a Comment.” You can make a comment about the post, you can make a comment about your kitten or cat, or you can just say “Hi” – and you are entered. If you leave a comment for all three posts, your name gets put in three times!”

Everyone seemed to enjoy it last year so I decided to do it again this year! But this year, there are 5 gifts! And if a back-order is delivered on time, there will be 6! We have a Clowder Cat Scarf, a Nerd Meow Toss Pillow and three cat pins/necklaces (I found these at a jewelry store when I was in Florida and I liked them so much, I purchased three!)

Make your comment and good luck in winning one of these fun prizes!

What a cute and fun way to celebrate. Loved the wooden tree, but we are not handy!
Our kitten comes Jan. 2nd and the tree gets put away Jan. 1st.

Emmy says “meowy Christmas!” She is still unsure of the tree and keeps her distance, but I’m sure that won’t last long.

    Hi Nancy and Jim,
As a teacher, I love the book tree. We are happy to have our trees decorated and have them outside the front windows and the back patio. Sly can not go back into the hospital for eating fabric or plastic. He loved to sit by the window on Sunday and watch the snow flakes falling. Such great entertainment! Blessings,
    Kath, Ed, and Stacey

All three of those gifts are adorable! We just finished snack time for the fur babies. Gingie was a sure catch with a couple of bobbles. Juliet has a gentler touch and stands to take it from my hand. This has become a wonderful evening routine for all of us. They “patiently ” wait until I’m ready for bed then they assume their positions. Merry Christmas to you and yours! Christy Beckman and family

Hi Nancy and Jim! We are excited to bring Wrigley home soon! 🙂 Josh says it’s nice because he gets to spend Christmas with his mom and siblings – haha. The book tree is amazing, but we have more e-books than real ones (science textbooks don’t count!). Happy holidays from our family to yours!

Your cats are beyond beautiful. I have always had Himalayans and just recently learned of the Siberian and was instantly drawn to their beauty. Thank you for such an informative website. Will be on a waiting list in the near future 🙂

Did they build the first tree or is it something you can buy. I like the idea of that one.

As a school librarian, the book tree has my vote for the best. However, I like the wooden ones too, but I am not crafty enough to make any of them! For Viktor’s sake and my sanity our condo will be very sparsely decorated this year. The prizes are all great. Thanks for doing this.
