Babies Go; Babies Grow!

Two more of our babies have gone to their new homes:

Jackie’s babies are already starting to roam around.  Jackie is a very protective mother so it is difficult to get great photos but I am going to try – be right back.  Well, not exactly right back!  I enlisted Jim’s help so we have pictures of three of her kittens.  The other three decided to have an early dinner so you will have to wait until the next blog posting to see their precious faces – eating does take priority!

Tia is an excellent mother but she doesn’t mind when we come in the room to see her babies.  She even allowed our daughter, SueEllen, to hold them and assist with the photo shoot.

It has been a glorious Independence Day week-end here in Girard.  The weather has been absolutely wonderful allowing for lots of swimming and attempts (!) at water skiing.

At dusk on Friday night we all got in the pontoon boat and floated around as we watched the beautiful fireworks.  Our daughter and son-in-law kept saying it was hard to believe how our little Sunset Lake Association can put on a fireworks display that would rival any in their Chicago suburb.

Everyone who comes to visit marvels at this little known gem in Central Illinois that we get to call home.

In addition to the water activities, we did lots of eating.  Mike, SueEllen, Neah and Keegan didn’t mind being guinea pigs for my new recipes.  This is the time of year I am gearing up for the Illinois State Fair – trying new recipes or putting my twist on some old ones.  I did try to keep with the 4th of July theme with this cake.  Instead of the traditional strawberries, I used my favorite fruit, raspberries.  Jim complained that I didn’t have the correct number of blueberry stars!IMG_6872

SueEllen, Mike and Neah left for home at Noon.  Keegan is staying for an extra day to spend some quality time with Grandma and Grandpa before he leaves in a week to go to Marine Corps boot camp.  As I put the finishing touches on this blog entry Grandpa and Keegan are out fishing and I am sure the old drill instructor is sharing some advice for the new recruit!  Semper Fi to my two Marines!
