Chapter Two, Cat House on Wheels

This is Wednesday and I am sitting on the patio outside our coach, the sun is shining, a light breeze is blowing and all feels right with the world. It has been several days since I have felt this peace. Last Friday, February 1, our friend Lani passed away after a long battle with cancer. Lani served as a Marine wife for 27 years and any one who has a husband who was or is in the military knows exactly what I mean by “served.” Lani was a humorist and was always surrounded by adoring friends. She and Bill are one of the couples we look forward to seeing when we come to Florida. Lani leaves an empty place in all our hearts but we each are better for having been her friend.

We haven’t been doing very much since we arrived in Bonita Springs last Friday–just a Super Bowl party on Sunday–since the Bears (my team) or the Colts (Jim’s team) weren’t playing, we didn’t do a lot of cheering, but it was a great game to watch. Glad your team won, Kelly!

I just spent two hours on the phone with the technical department to update my iPad. First I had to decide if I wanted to back up to Jim’s lap top or to a cloud! A computer geek I am not. Supposedly I can write this blog entry on my iPad; it is stored in a cloud, and then it drops from the cloud and magically appears on Jim’s computer. I better call my grandchildren for help!

Speaking of grandchildren, something beautiful did happen this last week. Another friend of mine, Karen, had a lung transplant the Sunday before we left home. She is now home breathing on her own for the first time in 10 years. Karen has always been an avid golfer….not sure avid is the right word….maybe passionate. The doctor said she can be back golfing in three months but that is not what she is excited about. She said she has never been able to have her grandchildren spend the night or take them on an excursion, and now she can and she is ecstatic about being able to spend time with them.

The Semper Fi Siberian gang are the new attraction at Bonita Lake RV Resort. When someone says can we see your cats, Nadeah, Mr. Silver, Sophie and Jackie come running to see who came to visit; and as if on cue for their matinee performance, they start kissing each other and everyone oohs and aahs, “oh how sweet!”

I will sign off for this week by again praying for God to watch over you. Please know there  is a new angel in heaven……good-bye Lani; thank you for your service to your country, to your family and to your friends. We miss you.
